Joe Hart has reflected on his new commentary role this season, having retired from football in the summer. After announcing his retirement at the end of the last season.

Hart, who spent the last three years of his career at Celtic, won three league titles, two Scottish Cups, and two League Cups, including a historic treble in 2023. The Englishman, in the twilight of his career under Ange Postecoglou and Brendan Rodgers, remained a key figure, starting week in and week out.

His desire to play until the very end was clear to see, as he finished his career on a high by winning the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup in his final two games at the age of 37.

Now working for multiple outlets, Hart was on co-commentary alongside Rory Hamilton for last night’s game at Celtic Park against Bayern Munich. The former Celtic goalkeeper admitted that, at times, he struggles while commentating on games.

Hart said: (TNT Sports), “There are moments when I need to shut up. I think as a co-comm, the final third, you leave that to the main man, he’ll tell the story as it unfolds. Often, my role will be to come in on replays and give an opinion on what’s happened.

“There’s lots going on and lots to get your head around, especially with me being new. I learned a lesson in the last game that I drank too much and I needed the toilet… it was a painful last 20 minutes!

“I was so mentally ready to be in this sort of role. I’ve just been learning on the job. Hopefully, I’m going to get better and better and improve as we go.”

Hart is clearly new to the role; however, he brings enthusiasm and knowledge, backed by a wealth of experience as a player. The Englishman does his research before games and does not sound out of his depth.

It says more about the professional standards he sets for himself, with Hart looking to let Rory Hamilton commentate on the main moments. As the pundit in the commentary booth, Hart is there to provide analysis rather than simply describing the action.

Hart has done well anytime he’s been on commentary for a Celtic game this season. Although he may one day go into coaching, his larger-than-life personality makes him a great option as a commentator for games involving teams he used to play for, like Celtic.
