Joe Hart has revealed what he heard about Celtic’s new signing Marcelo Saracchi ahead of the Europa League clash with Red Star Belgrade.
Saracchi joined Celtic on loan from Boca Juniors late in the summer window, brought in to strengthen the left-back position and provide competition for Kieran Tierney. The Uruguayan has built a reputation as an energetic full-back with a fiery personality, and it seems that has already been noticed in Glasgow.
Hart, who spent three years at Celtic before retiring, was around the squad in Belgrade as part of his media role and said players and staff were quick to mention the impact Saracchi has had. While he is yet to fully establish himself on the pitch, his character has left a strong first impression.
He said: (TNT Sports), ”I was at the Celtic hotel today and they were telling me about Saracchi, bringing a whole lot of energy to this squad.
”He sounds like a real character.”
Hart’s comments show Saracchi is already fitting into the squad, even though he’s only been at the club a short time. His energy and personality off the pitch could be just as important as what he brings on it during a busy spell of games.
Celtic have always thrived with strong characters in the dressing room, and Saracchi looks like he could be one of them. Competing with Tierney for a place will push both players and give Rodgers more options on the left.
He hasn’t played much yet, but the early signs are positive. Saracchi seems to be settling in quickly, and if his performances match the character Hart talks about, he could be a real boost for the team.
The coming months will be the real test, but everything suggests Saracchi is ready to take it on. If he brings his energy onto the pitch, he could make a big difference to Celtic this season.
