JOHN COLLINS made an impassioned message to Celtic that they could have won the league last season if they had a good enough goalkeeper.

We’ll disagree with the former Celtic player and coach, because we believe our capitulation was much more nuanced than not having a competent goalkeeper – but it certainly didn’t help.

Speaking after the game on Tuesday night when Barkas let in a goal he should have saved, Collins bemoaned Celtic’s goalkeeping situation and made the claim on BBC Sportsound.

“Celtic dominate games week in week out and the goalkeeper has to make maximum two saves.

“But you have to make those saves and that is what won Rangers the league.

“Big saves against Celtic in the big matches. Their goalkeepers’ saves probably won them the league.

“If you switch goalkeepers last year then Celtic might have won the league.”

Barkas is under the microscope again after his exploits vs Midtjylland. The goalkeeper doesn’t have the confidence of the Celtic support and as our last line of defence, the Greek goalie has not been good enough.

Do we wait until he makes more mistakes or do we find a replacement before the end of this transfer window. We don’t have the luxury of allowing Barkas to bed in for another six months and then hope for the best, we need a keeper who can stop the ball hitting the back of the net, now!
