It would have seemed unthinkable at the start of the season there could be a successful Celtic team without a fit Scott Brown but after the player went down with an injury the team excelled from mediocrity and began to play some really attractive football.

When the Celtic captain has played lately the team has seemed flat, that’s not just down to him of course but when you have the likes of Christie and Rogic out the side when they’re on form then it’s going to hurt the flow Celtic are in.

There’s no doubt most Celtic fans believe Scott Brown is a major asset but what Callum McGregor has done is lighten Celtic’s concerns as well as give Brown a well needed breather.

With the Captain advancing in years he should be used carefully by the Celtic boss, before the injury he was one of the first names on the team sheet, now Rodgers has options and that’s a good thing.

Speaking to the Evening Times, John Hartson believes anybody who thinks Scott Brown is finished after his spell on the sidelines is sadly mistaken.

“I am not having it that Brown, a Celtic captain, a club legend about to make his 500th club appearance, is done.

“Before his injury, Brown was the best thing since sliced bread. I can’t get my head around those who now say he’s finished. How has he gone from the team’s leader to being too old within a few weeks?”
