JOHN HARTSON appears way off base with his summation of the Eddie Howe situation.

The Welshman called the Englishman privileged for being in Celtic’s sights but almost ridiculed the former Bournemouth man for not running up to Glasgow in the blink of an eye.

“Eddie Howe is privileged to be so sought after by Celtic,” Hartson told the Go Radio Show said.

“Celtic is a global club. Massive fanbase all around the world, it’s a magnificent job.

“Especially now because you’ve got a big challenge. The challenge is to topple Rangers who have just won the Premiership.

“Celtic have to respond and they have to make sure they get the right man in.

“Eddie Howe is um-ing and ah-ing, maybe he’s decided he may well be going somewhere else.

“If he thinks he’s got Celtic in the bag and he’s holding out for something else coming up (then Celtic must move on).”

Deals can be complicated and because of the detail involved in Celtic’s restructure, it isn’t just the case of a phone call.

It’s also more heartening to know if a manager has covered all his bases with Celtic and takes the time to study what the club needs. We don’t want a manager who’s just grateful to be there like Neil Lennon.

Considering Celtic haven’t approached anyone else in nearly a month, there’s more to this than meets the eye. Dermot Desmond would not put his cards on the table for this long if he thought for a second it would backfire on him.

Patience is a virtue, John.

  1. I agree with both BJH and Eddie – this has gone on way too long and I’d say the same if it was a decision from Guardiola or Klopp. I know they said Dermot was “blown away” by Howe at the interview – did Howe give DD the best head he’s ever had or something? Why on Earth are we jeopardising next season’s CL chances like this? If it’s true we’re waiting until the end of May to see if Howe’s choice of backroom team are available then that is just scandalous. Pay the money to get them now or move on.
In saying all that, I really believe it’s a stalling tactic by the board, not Howe. It’ll reach the point where Howe will knock it back and we’ll end up in a “it was too late and no other suitable candidate could be found…introducing our new manager JOHN KENNEDY.”
Welcome to 2021’s version of apointing Lennon in the showers….would any of us really put it past the cheapskate tory bassas of the board?

  2. How can anybody agree with John? We don’t even know if Eddie Howe has been offered the job! It may be Celtic stalling. And if he has bee offered the job, maybe he is having second thoughts if he has read some outrageous, childish and bratty comments coming for our support. Our clubs is well known for its delay. So to have a dig at someone who may or may not have been offered the job, is something I would expect from the other side of the city.
