John Kennedy has come out and had to clarify his statement after the Livingston game last weekend.

We at CeltsAreHere have had to mention several times this week about Kennedy’s comments being taken out of context by the Daily Record.

Comments surrounding Kennedy saying Celtic were still the best team in the country.

He caveated the comment by saying on their day he believes had to be the case but in the context of a one on one knock out tie, he believes his side has what it takes.

The record have relentlessly run with stories and rebuttals from everyone and their granny this week. Even Chris Sutton showed poor judgement in not questioning the narrative put forth by the media outlet.

It’s gave rise to so many ex-Ibrox players calling John out and Chris Sutton even branding John Kennedy disrespectfully as having a Pedro Caixinha moment.

The interim Hoops boss had to clear things up today but he didn’t really because the Record knew what he meant but chose to distort his comments and build a narrative they’ve feasted on this week.

“My take on it, and I have seen little comments about this in terms of people taking part of the comment and it’s careless.” John told CelticTV.

“People go and make a story and a headline out of it taking the comment out of context

“I was referring to the cup game and on our day we can still be the best performing team in the country because we have that level in us. So that’s purely what it is.

“Several times in the last few weeks I have commented on Rangers thoroughly deserving to win the league because they have been the most consistent team.

“They have racked up the most points and been the most consistent with their performances.

“I have shown full respect to Rangers for what they have done.

“I’m entitled to say that on any given day, especially going into a cup tie against Rangers that I fancy us, on our day, to come out on top.

“And some people take a small part of that statement and twist it to suit their narrative. That’s careless for me.

“To bring a bit of clarity to that, Rangers deserve to be the champions this season because they have been more consistent than us but come the cup game if we hit top gear and perform well, I fancy us to go and win the game.”

What’s mor hilarious is the record now publishing the comments from John. They got to hear them first hand during a press conference. While Celtic fan media sat on the sidelines defending the Hoops boss all week.

We really hope more fan engagement with the club is forthcoming and we can start to squeeze out these nonsense stories.

  1. I’d say the most consistent team in Scotland have been the officials. They’ve steadfastly stuck to their job of making sure the rangers get the required result.

  2. Forget what the press & John Kennedy say-its irrelevant.
The players just need to do their job on the park.
No excuses-failed in all 3 games v Sevco this season, FFS give us some consolation in this miserable season
