Celtic interim boss John Kennedy has shut down any idea of Rangers possibly going on an undefeated league in the league as being a better achievement than the Celtic side which completed the feat back in the 2016/17 season, whilst also saying this won’t be used as any sort of extra motivation as the players look to rectify themselves to the fans.
As quoted by the Scotsman, speaking ahead of Sunday’s derby, Kennedy who was part of Brendan Rodgers backroom staff in that season was quick to speak up about the club’s achievements in the last few seasons, winning four trebles in a row.
The players going into this game won’t be looking to that for extra motivation though, as they look to put in the performance to take home the three points.
“It’s important because it’s part of our history and we’re very proud of that. We also went a full season, winning each trophy. So that in isolation is a bigger achievement.
“We’ll not use it as extra motivation [though]. We have set the marker in previous seasons. We have cleaned up domestically in previous seasons. Rangers have had their moment, but we want it to be a moment.
“The thing now is how we perform on Sunday, the result we get and the impact on things going forward. It will not be an extra incentive for the players to stop Rangers. It’s more about us now, what we deliver, how we perform and the results we get.”
After such a poor season, the fans deserve to see a good performance in a game like this to try and gain back any faith which has been lost over the last few months.
Games like this are always must win, no matter what the situation is. So, it is key we see that commitment to the cause from the players to take home the three points.
