It had been rumoured that Danish side FC Midtjylland were looking at appointing John Kennedy but it appears they have changed direction.

The club finished second in the Danish Superliga last season and parted company with their boss Bo Henriksen.

Celtic’s assistant manger was strongly linked with a move away but the club are now in talks with Barcelona academy chief Albert Capellas after they travelled to Spain to hold talks with the former Denmark U21 boss.

Capellas has had a decent career up to date with the Spaniard having previously worked at clubs such as Vitesse, Brøndby and Borussia Dortmund amongst others.

He briefly also took charge of Barcelona’s B team for a short period after this dismissal of Ronald Koeman with him assuming the role off Sergi Barjuán.

It is welcome news that John Kennedy will be staying at the club and is says a lot about his coaching credentials that he is being linked with such a job.

FC Midtjylland are owned by Matthew Benham who is also the owner of Premier League club Brentford.

Many Celtic players have praised Kennedy over the years with Ange Postecoglou also being very complementary of the former Hoops defender.

“John is a really important part of what we do here, he’s an important part of my set-up, he leads a lot of the areas with respect to our football, so he’s a valuable asset to this club,” said Ange Postecoglou speaking the Scottish Sun.

Kennedy will have the chance to be a number two in the Champions League for the first time this season and will likely have many more clubs make approaches for him in the coming years.

For now, he will be staying put at Celtic Park as the Hoops look to continue to strengthen and improve on last season.
