Journalist David Sneyd has confirmed that Johnny Kenny’s loan move from Celtic to Bolton Wanderers has been completed, ending the uncertainty that had been building as the deadline approached.
Kenny has struggled for chances this season. His minutes have been few, and most of his appearances have come from the bench or due to injuries in the squad. With Celtic bringing in Junior Adamu on loan with an option to buy, his route into the team became even more difficult.
From a football point of view, the move is easy to understand. Kenny needs to play. At this stage, good training alone does not move things forward. Regular matches matter, especially for a striker who relies on timing, movement, and belief in front of goal.
Bolton can give him that. League One is tough and straightforward, but it allows strikers to stay involved week after week. That steady run of games is something Kenny has not had at Celtic, where competition and expectation limit patience.

He had other options. Interest from Schalke, clubs in the Championship, and AGF meant different routes were open. Bolton offered the best chance of regular starts.
For Celtic, the move suits the current picture. Junior Adamu’s arrival has changed the forward options, and sending Kenny out on loan stops him being stuck on the bench.
If Kenny finds goals and form, it works for both sides. Bolton get a forward with hunger, and Celtic get a player returning in form.
