CELTIC should absolutely be looking at Josh Doig as a potential long term target for the club. We at CeltsAreHere have been a proponent of the club even making a move this summer. The major obstacle in the way is not having a manager in charge to make these kinds of decisions.

However, after Doig’s comments to The Scotsman, Celtic might have a bit of time before he wants to move on.

Doig talks about his development at Hibernian is absolutely vital and it’s where he wants to keep developing for the moment.

It could mean another Hibs season for the breakthrough star next season before really assessing his options.

“It’s crazy because I’ve grown up watching all these clubs and for any of them even to show an interest…Whatever happens, happens. But as long as I’m playing football, whether it’s here, at Barcelona, or back at Queen’s Park, that’s what I want. I absolutely adore it here at Hibs.

“You can see with the likes of John McGinn, I know Hibs is a great pathway to go to higher places but it is still a massive club in itself. We could finish third this season.

“I don’t think there’s a better place than Hibs to develop as a player. I know that myself as I have come on so much. Being here is good for me.”

Celtic should keep a close eye on Doig’s development and if he continues his upward trajectory, the Hoops must be in the conversation to take Josh away from Hibernian.

We agree that a move this summer could be too much, too soon for the left-back. Another season at Easter Road and see how things go would be right for everyone.
