Josip Juranovic was surprisingly left out of the squad for the game against Aberdeen on Wednesday.

The Croatian was expected to start the tie but instead was nowhere to be seen at Pittodrie.

It prompted a pretty strong response online to people wondering why the defender was left out. Some fans going as far as saying rumours of a summer move had prompted his absence.

We can unequivocally say that’s not the case and the defender was simply suffering from an illness that excluded him from selection.

Ange Postecoglou confirmed this to Football Scotland:

“He’s got an illness mate,”

“[He’ll be back at] the weekend, hopefully, and if not he will definitely be back for the midweek fixture next week.”

Good to hear there’s no serious injury at play. Juranovic might sit out the Raith Rovers tie but should be back for the UEFA conference league match against Bodo/Glimt.

Celtic have been on a winning run in 2022, and they’ll want to keep that momentum going until their next SPFL tie.

The bhoys will be back in action in the SPFL against Dundee at Celtic Park.
