Former Celtic player Josip Juranovic has played a crucial role in convincing Maik Nawrocki to choose Celtic over other suitors.

Nawrocki, a tall, strong, and physical defender from Legia Warsaw, is expected to sign for the Scottish champions in a £4m deal, with a 15% sell-on clause included in the agreement.

Juranovic, who left Celtic for Bundesliga side Union Berlin in January after an 18-month stint, reportedly had a phone call with Nawrocki as the defender was weighing up his options. [Daily Mail via Football Scotland]

Galatasaray were also in the race for the player, but Juranovic’s glowing report of his time at Celtic seems to have tipped the balance in favour of the Scottish giants.

Nawrocki is currently in the UK to undergo a medical and go through the fine details of his contract. He even missed Legia Warsaw’s match on Friday night to fly to Glasgow, indicating the advanced stage of the negotiations.

The addition of Nawrocki to Celtic’s ranks would provide a significant boost to their defensive options. His physical presence, combined with his technical skills, makes him an attractive prospect for the club.

It speaks volumes about the club’s ambition. Already having a settled partnership, Celtic are looking to improve on it further and are willing to spend money on a quality defender.
