Celtic fans have made it clear they want to see Jota signed up on a permanent deal at the end of the season.
The winger got on the scoresheet again against a very good Bayer Leverkusen side and continues to exhibit the sort of exuberance and talent we need in the Celtic team.
It’s all about winning trophies and Celtic’s chances of landing silverware are greater with the Portuguese midfielder involved.
Any time Jota does his media duties, he’s inevitably asked what the future holds for him. Right now, the player seems set on keeping his head down and playing football.
The deal at the end of the season will come if both parties are happy to make it happen.
As quoted by RecordSport, Jota spoke this weekend: “Success is something that can come really fast but it can also go really fast. So I just have to work a lot and remain humble. I am very happy with Celtic.
“In my short career, I think being with Celtic is the best moment for me. But I don’t want to stop – I have plenty more I want to do. My head knows what I can do and I’m not going to stop until I reach what I’m supposed to. There is much more to come from me. Game after game, like knowing more about my teammates and us all being together, I think it will just get better.
“I believe the team is getting stronger. We are working well together in every training session, every game. I just need to keep on doing my thing and learn from everyone. I don’t know what Benfica are thinking. But my family and friends are of course happy for me. What is done is done and I cannot stop. I need to do more and more.”
We have to remember, Jota is a Benfica supporter and would love to become a cult hero for the team he grew up supporting. This could be a major factor in any deal being done, an oversight by many who think Jota will stay.
If there’s a chance he could go back to the club at the end of the season and be considered for the first team, there’s a good chance he might take that option.
There are so many variables at play, I think it’s important Celtic fans don’t fixate on if a deal can be done. They should appreciate having Jota here this season and as Ange told CeltsAreHere at the last fan media presser, if there’s a deal to be done, then Celtic will certainly look at it.
