Celtic are keen to get a deal done to turn Jota’s loan status into a permanent deal.

Ange Postecoglou wants the Portuguese winger here next season and the club is now tasked with making it happen.

Reports in Portugal have claimed Celtic will get a deal done. However — the terms of the deal will mean conceding a large chunk of future cash to Benfica.

A Bola reports the Eagles will hold a 30% future sell on clause for the winger if the Hoops do bring him to Glasgow.

It means Celtic’s potential for a large profit in any deal in the future would be greatly diminished.

Would this be a deal breaker for Celtic?

It shouldn’t put Celtic off from chasing Jota. They had to concede similar terms for Odsonne Edouard back under Brendan Rodgers.

Celtic fans want to see Jota signed and in the team but you would be naive to suggest the board aren’t taking into account the player’s resale value. Giving such a large share to Benfica will be hopefully offset by Celtic including their own sell-on clause when they do sell the player down the line.

Right now — it should be all about securing Jota’s future and making sure we can call on him next season.
