FORMER STV journalist Peter Smith has dropped the bombshell Rafa Benitez actually asked around about the Celtic job over the past month when he was being heavily linked with a move to the club.

Neil Lennon was offered the job minutes after landing the Scottish Cup final and the treble treble for the bhoys ending any speculation. However, it would appear the rumours caught the eye of the Spaniard who asked a former Ibrox scout about the Celtic job.

Peter Smith then made it clear Rafa had held no talks with Celtic over the vacant managerial position but it would be a job he WOULD consider in the future.

Neil Lennon is the man of the moment and the Celtic fans are backing their man but a comment like this and you think what could have been for sure.

Celtic admitted they made no approach for any manager other than Neil Lennon, which is both negligent and doing Neil Lennon a disservice.

Rafa doesn’t have his future sorted yet and you can be sure while Peter Lawwell is the man in charge he would not want a manager in charge who pushes his chief executives to the limit with regards to a playing budget.

  1. To be a EPL manager you have to work from bottom to the top Celtic can not expect to get a top class manager as manager’s will not work in the penny tray for players and should they be daft enough to try and fail there career is ended within the year

  2. I don’t think that makes sense lordmac, as Brendan Rogers proved by winning 7 trophies in a row. Celtic is a step up from Newcastle in my opinion. He would come and then he would go, but also win trophies and enhance his credentials, just like Brendan. However, I am sure he would not leave the way Brendan did.

As for your comment Michael, in what way was Celtic not approaching another manager negligent and how does it do Neil Lennon a disservice? That’s merely an opinion on your part, but I suggest you do not know how to run a club successfully, whilst Peter Lawwell does.

This site has become very negative.

  3. Frank Brendan was bought, and he needed a spring board , and one irish to another helped him out, Neil will not last as long as Brendan, yet Brendan is on borrowed time also , and his chances of being kept On for any more than 2 seasons will be down to his performance
