No club is immune to the current crisis and the financial implications it brings. Liverpool are even letting some of their players contracts run out and will be replacing their place in the squad with academy graduates according to the Transfer Podcast with Duncan Castles.

Celtic have the opportunity to do the same this summer and it appears they might just do it in the instance of Stephen Welsh.

The centre-back made his debut for the club last season and gave a good account of himself.

On the whole, Welsh has found it hard to get into the squad but with the departure it Jozo Simunovic in May — there’s a squad opening for the bhoy.

It would seem Neil Lennon rates him highly enough that Welsh has joined the first team in their England training and will no doubt take the trip to France with the club.

With no Reserve League being played — the Celtic youngsters have an opportunity to either show their immediate worth to the first team or perhaps head out on loan.

  1. Just as it should be, our own lads stepping up and giving the chance to shine bright, i would like to see 1 CF 2 midfielders 2 CH a RB and LB back and a keeper all giving the chance to give there all and show if they can cut it this season…
