Rangers boss Michael Beale has admitted that Christopher Jullien’s winning goal in the 2019 League Cup final still haunts him until this day.

For majority of the game, Neil Lennon’s side were severely under cosh as they were saved by a magnificent goalkeeping performance from Southampton loanee Fraser Forster who was undoubtedly the Hoops man of the match.

This clash was the last time that both teams faced each other in a final at Hampden and they are now set to take each other on in the tournament next month at the national stadium for the showpiece event.

It wasn’t the most bearable ninety minutes of football if you were watching on as a Celtic fan but the feeling after the final whistle went was just pure relief.

Celtic took the lead on the hour mark after a brilliantly whipped in ball from Ryan Christie found Christopher Jullien who tapped the ball into the net.

Had VAR been in operation that day, the Hoops wouldn’t of been so lucky that day as Jullien was clearly in an offside position but only a few minutes later they were once again at a disadvantage after defender Jeremie Frimpong was shown a red card.

Having already been up against it, this made things worse and Celtic eventually got there in the end to go on and lift the trophy.

Beale will be hoping for a different outcome to that day but it’s clear that it still plays on his mind.

“Yeah, they ended up with the trophy,” said Beale speaking after his side confirmed their place in the final as quoted by the Glasgow Times.

“Well, if we had VAR… Are we using VAR at Hampden for this final?

“That was a sore one at the time. After that game, it was more frustration because we had played very well. That’s a trophy that they’ve got that’s a disappointment for us.”
