Junior Adamu’s arrival at Celtic answered one question but raised another. The striker has revealed that he first became aware of Celtic’s interest in mid-January, yet the move was not completed until deadline day.

In between, supporters watched a long run of games without a backup striker arriving to support Tomas Cvancara up front.

That gap mattered because of the fixtures involved. Celtic went away to Falkirk, Bologna, and Hearts, then faced Utrecht at home before meeting Falkirk again. Those matches came while Celtic were still chasing Hearts in the league and trying to keep pace across numerous competitions. The lack of ]attacking depth was hard to miss.

Supporters have grown used to this pattern. Targets appear early, talks rumble on, and deals are closed late, if at all. Adamu’s comments suggest the interest was there weeks ago, which leads to a fair question about why the move took so long to land.

From the outside, it does not look like urgency drove the deal. Either Adamu was not the first striker Celtic wanted to support Tomas Cvancara, or the club were content to wait while points and momentum under Martin O’Neill were at stake. Neither explanation will sit well with fans who have been calling for quicker action for years.

He said: (TCW), “It was the middle of the transfer window when I heard that Celtic were interested in me.

“Then I had the opportunity to speak to the manager.

“That was a good feeling for me. It feels good to wear the No. 9.

“There are good strikers here. Now it’s my turn to show what I can do and help the team.”

From Adamu’s side, there was patience. He did not rush the choice and took time to speak to people he trusts. That is understandable for a player with a World Cup summer in mind.

For Celtic, though, the delay relates to a current Celtic fan frustration. The squad needed help earlier, not at the final hour. Games do not pause while deals drag on.

If Adamu scores and helps turn draws into wins, the wait will be forgotten. If not, the timing of this deal will be remembered as much as the deal itself.
