Kasper Schmeichel marked a significant career milestone at the weekend as he made his 900th professional appearance during Celtic’s dramatic 3-2 win over Motherwell and the veteran goalkeeper took to Instagram to reflect on the journey so far.
The 38-year-old passed the remarkable landmark on Sunday, capping the occasion with a vital three points in stoppage time, thanks to Daizen Maeda’s late header.
While it wasn’t his most dominant performance in a Celtic shirt, the moment wasn’t lost on Schmeichel, who shared a heartfelt post with supporters the following day.
“When you’re a kid, you dream of moments like your debut. Then you dream of scoring your first goal. Then lifting your first trophy. Then wearing your country’s shirt. Then hitting 100 games, then 250,” he wrote.
“Yesterday I hit 900 professional matches for club and country. Something I could only have dreamed of back then. And what a way to do it with an injury time winner.
“Grateful for every step, every challenge, every cheer. 900 and counting.”
Schmeichel, who joined Celtic last summer following his exit from Anderlecht, has had a storied career, including Premier League and FA Cup glory with Leicester City and over 90 caps for Denmark. While his time in Glasgow has come under scrutiny following some inconsistent displays in recent weeks, including a rough night against Braga in Europe, reaching 900 games at the professional level is a testament to his longevity, resilience, and professionalism.
