It has been a whirlwind couple of days for new Celtic goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

Denmark’s Euro 2024 captain was confirmed as the Hoops’ second summer signing last Thursday before jetting out to the USA to join up with his new teammates.

Having taken in the Bhoys’ 4-0 thumping of DC United on Saturday from the stands, the 37-year-old is now in contention to face his old club Manchester City this evening.

Schmeichel only recently had his first training session with Celtic, but he has found it easy to integrate into the squad with his new teammates.

“They’ve (Celtic players) made it really, really easy to integrate”, he said (Celtic FC on YouTube).

“I’ve been here a couple of days now, we’ve had some travelling I’ve tried to integrate myself into the team.

“To be fair, football players, we’re quite easy to get along with usually.”

Taking the reigns from Joe Hart between the sticks, Schmeichel’s attributes are very similar to that of the retired Englishman.

He will come in as an experienced professional who has vast experience at the top level. Schmeichel will be a senior leader in the team and understands what Rodgers wants having worked with him at Leicester.

He said: “From the footballing point of view, I’m lucky I’ve worked with the boss before.

“I know his styles and his principles so it’s not completely foreign to me.”

The stopper might well make his Celtic bow later this evening in Chapel Hill.

Scott Bain and Viljami Sinisalo got a half each against DC at the weekend, but it remains to be seen what the plan is tonight.
