Celtic signed Johnny Kenny in the January transfer window from Sligo Rovers. The striker was supposed to join up with the senior side, but his injury and COVID infection saw him drop down to the B side.

However, Postecoglou called Kenny up to the senior side for the pre-season trip to Austria. The manager then named the Irish striker in his first starting lineup of pre-season and he certainly made a name for himself.

The youngster scored a brace and was unlucky not to arrive back at his hotel room with the match ball.

Reacting to his first two Celtic goals, Johnny Kenny said;

“It was good to get out on the pitch with the first team for the first time and to top it off with two goals and a 7-0 win. It’s a good start to pre-season, but we keep on going.

“The first one Mikey did well. I know Mikey, I’ve played with him before, I knew he’d find me at the back post. Thankfully he did.

“The second one, Berna whips it in and I got a bit lucky but I had to be alive to finish it the time.”

Celtic’s Youngster Has the Striker’s Instinct

Kenny was alive in and around the box throughout the first half. For the second goal the striker had to react to the deflection, picking up Bernabei’s cross, he hit it with power and beat the diving keeper.

It looks like Kenny possesses a lot of potential. Hopefully, he can live up to it.
