We told you last week how former Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney returned to training with Arsenal’s first team. He has now taken the next step in his recovery.

Indeed, Tierney is in the Gunners’ squad which recently travelled to Lisbon to face Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League this evening.

The 27-year-old was clipped boarding the Arsenal flight to Portugal in a video posted on the club’s official X page:

Tierney hasn’t played a single minute of senior, first-team football since the European Championships in the summer.

He started in Scotland’s 7-1 defeat to Germany, but an hour into the next game, against Switzerland, he suffered a hamstring injury. It has kept him out since.

Now, though, Tierney looks ready to go for Mikel Arteta’s side as the January transfer window looms.

The defender is contracted at the Emirates Arena until 2026, and Celtic were linked with a reunion last month when Graeme Bailey from TBR Football reported that Tierney informed Arsenal he wants to return to his boyhood club in January.

It followed a report in The Sunday Post, which put the Gunners’ asking price for the defender at £10m.

Rumours were then sent into overdrive during the international break before last when Tierney was spotted mingling with Brendan Rodgers at a Celtic event in London.

It remains to be seen if a return will ever come to fruition, but fans can at least hold out hope.
