Celtic take on Dundee this weekend in their last home game of the year but the fans making the journey to Celtic Park will notice some significant absentees.

Brendan Rodgers looks to be pragmatic in his approach to Saturday’s game with two massive away games before the end of the year.

With that in mind, the Celtic boss has ruled out both Kieran Tierney AND Dedryck Boyata from playing any part in proceedings at Celtic Park.

Boyata and Tierney have both been out injured but they are back on the training field, the Irishman wants to manage both of them so they can play a big part in the Aberdeen game as well as at Ibrox.

Speaking to CelticTV the manager said:“Boyata won’t play against Dundee, but will be available for next week and it’s the same with Tierney.”

This means Jozo Simunovic and Izaguirre will keep their place in the side after brushing past Motherwell on Wednesday night

With regards to his striker, Odsonne Edouard, it seems like he will join a similar path to Boyata and Tierney.

“We want Odsonne fit because when he’s fit and fresh he’s a fantastic talent.

“But it gives someone else an opportunity and young Mikey Johnston came in and was great.

“I also have options with Ryan Christie back in the squad.

“Christie has been brilliant, and he’s very keen to get back in as quick as he can.

“We have to ensure he’s not pushing it too much, but he’s trained now for the last few days and looks good.

“Ryan can play up front, and there’s two others we can be flexible in how we play.”

Celtic will go into the Dundee game with no recognised striker. Something the Celtic manager will have to deal with if he wants to pull away from the pack at the top of the SPFL.

There are plenty of more goals in the side without Edouard, it will be up to Celtic’s creative midfield to get among the goals against the relegation-battling Dundee.
