Talks between Celtic and Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney are reportedly advancing, with both parties eager to reach a pre-contract agreement that would see him make a sensational return to Parkhead in the summer, report Sky Sports.

Tierney, who left Celtic for Arsenal in a £25m deal in 2019, is said to be willing to take a significant pay cut to secure his return to the Scottish champions. It’s believed he could drop to £35k per week.

While the focus remains on a pre-contract arrangement for next season, Celtic are also exploring the possibility of bringing Tierney back on loan this month. However, that loan move would not be finalised until later in the transfer window.

One factor influencing this timeline is Celtic’s ongoing Champions League campaign. The club cannot register new players for the league phase of the competition, which concludes on January 29 with a high-stakes clash against Aston Villa. Should Celtic progress to the knockout stages, they will have the opportunity to register new signings in February.

Celtic’s European ambitions may shape the timing of Tierney’s potential return. With the club aiming to make the knockout stages, Rodgers will likely weigh the benefits of having an experienced and quality defender like Tierney available for that phase.

Tierney’s return would raise questions about Greg Taylor’s future, particularly as speculation grows regarding his potential departure. Taylor, whose contract expires this summer, has been linked with a move to MLS and Dinamo Zagreb, with Celtic yet to agree on a new deal with the Scotland international.

With talks progressing well and both parties keen to finalise a deal, it’s becoming increasingly likely that Tierney will don the green and white hoops once again.
