Kieran Tierney has pulled out of the Scotland squad through injury ahead of their upcoming friendly against Liechtenstein.

The defender, who is due to officially return to Celtic in July following the expiry of his Arsenal contract, trained with his teammates after the Iceland defeat.

It’s a frustrating way to finish the campaign for Tierney, who had started to find rhythm again late in the season with Arsenal, including a goal in their final Premier League match. He was expected to play a prominent role for Steve Clarke’s side in this international window as they continue preparations for next summer’s tournament.

From a Celtic perspective, the timing of the injury, while not ideal, is somewhat softened by the fact that it’s the close season. With several weeks until the squad reports for training, there remains plenty of time for recovery.

Kieran Tierney’s return to Celtic has been met with widespread excitement among supporters. He will link up with Brendan Rodgers’ side officially in July after the club confirmed a pre-contract agreement in their interim financial report.

The hope now is that the injury is nothing more than a minor setback as he prepares for a new chapter back at Parkhead.

  1. Tissue paper Tierney injured again.
WTF is wrong with this club? Anyone knows we are going to be paying dead money for him.

He was a great player and servant to the club but nostalgia has no place in modern football.
The money would be better spent on players at the start of their career not someone who’s career has really been over for at least a couple of years.

If Tierney really loved this club he would agree to pay for play.
That being he forfeits his wage when he is not available due to injury.
Please stop bringing back players we had previously that are now older and slower and injury prone.

  2. Tierney and McTomminay withdraw. Probably Scotlands two best players.

If I were a Scotland player I’d withdraw as well. Who would really want to play for Clarke, nevermind an international friendly against a team of dodgy bankers?

Pointless match, crap manager, middle of June.

Maybe all the pearl clutchers can settle down a bit.
