KIERAN TIERNEY’S former agent Raymond Sparkes has opened up about his former clients move to Arsenal and how Brendan Rodgers played a massive role in Kieran switching from Sparkes to his current agents Stellar Group.
Sparkes spoke about the inevitable position Tierney was put in to head down south with Rodgers advising him.
The agent believes Rodgers put the defender on a fast paced trajectory to the Premier League. Sparkes chronicling Kieran’s contracts at Celtic with himself handling his second last deal at the club before the defender signed a SIX-YEAR deal with the club under Stellar group.
Speaking to BBC Off the ball, the agent does know the accusation he’s making and points it out.
“Inevitable springs to mind (regarding Tierney move). As you rightly say, I negotiated his second last contract at Celtic which was for five years with Celtic.
“At the end of my written contract with him, I would of course have been keen to take that to the next level but I don’t mind saying that there were certain influences at work.
“I felt that to the largest extent he was being taken off in a direction by Brendan Rodgers, I don’t mind saying, it’s certainly quite an allegation. The truth is kind of unsurprisingly he ended up with the agency that was closest to Brendan.
“I can’t help but think that he was put in a position where he was sold the idea that if he was going onto greater, bigger things then perhaps he should be dealing with an English based agency.
“The odd thing was that when he didn’t renew with me, it didn’t come as a great surprise. He went with the new agent and odder that Celtic then added a year to his contract – which I found strange.
“To have four years left on his contract as he did why was there a need for Celtic to add another year which they did.”
It would appear Brendan Rodgers played a big role at the ground level of Kieran’s move. Remember, before this, Kieran was talking about a one team man.
Not that Kieran leaving should be looked at as a betrayal – however his departure may have been hastened by the Irishman and Stellar Groups intervention.
