Celtic started their 20/21 campaign with a draw against Nice, but it could have been a win on another day. VAR was the villain for the bhoys as a perfectly good goal was chopped off after a long wait.

Edouard was the man to stick it in the back of the net, but it didn’t count as Celtic’s first goal of the campaign. That honour went to new bhoy Patryk Klimala who came on in the second half and the pressure he exerted on the goalkeeper paid off when a mistake let the Pole in to equalise.

Celtic started with a strong side, the sort of starting XI which will likely start the first game of the season against Hamilton. Neil Lennon’s side dominated the early going, but Nice did come into it more as the half wore on. Poor defending would lead to Dolberg beating Scott Bain, catching the goalkeeper wrong-footed.

The second half saw wholesale changes – Soro getting his debut in Hoops while young players like Conor Hazard and Stephen Welsh got a chance. That side was the one who managed to grab the equaliser.

In all, it was a decent outing for the squad, and they can look to the Lyon game with some confidence.
