Celtic has been heavily linked to Ko Itakura this summer after links were initially established last year.

However, after he entered discussions with Borussia Mönchengladbach, reports linking the Japanese international died down. But now, as reported by the Bild, talks have broken down.

The Manchester City defender is on Celtic’s potential target list, with Postecoglou keen to improve his defensive line and add cover to the partnership of Carl Starfelt and Carter-Vickers.

It comes as Chris Jullien nears his Celtic exit, it’s like a jigsaw is falling into place.

One Holding Point for Celtic

Talks between the German club and the English champions broke down because the fee of €6.5 million that Borussia Mönchengladbach were prepared to fork out isn’t enough.

Manchester City believes that they can receive a better offer elsewhere, with talks subsequently breaking down.

It’s extremely unlikely that Celtic will spend big again this summer, especially if Itakura is just a backup option for Celtic, but, with strong links to the City group, never say never.
