Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has issued a stark warning ahead of today’s Glasgow Derby, stating that Celtic grabbing an early lead at Ibrox could ignite a volatile reaction from the already frustrated home support.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Boyd painted a picture of a Rangers side and fanbase teetering on the edge, with tensions running high after a string of disappointing results.

Boyd was frank in his assessment of the current mood around Rangers, citing recent setbacks—a loss to St Mirren and a home draw with Motherwell—as key contributors to the discontent.

With the team now 14 points adrift of Celtic in the league standings, he noted the mounting pressure on Philippe Clement’s squad.

Boyd speculated on the potential consequences of a Celtic opener, suggesting that it could escalate tensions within the Ibrox crowd.

He said: “There is a lot of negativity. There were questions being asked a few weeks ago. If you look at it now, obviously, they lost at St Mirren and the draw against Motherwell. The changes that were made to the team. There is a lot of negativity surrounding Rangers going into this Celtic game.

“If Celtic go to Ibrox, and some of the bookmakers have got them odds on favourites, which pretty much sums up where both teams are at. Celtic going to Ibrox odds on and it’s the second Glasgow derby of the season in the league. It’s not been good enough for Rangers. You just get the feeling that if this continues. Well, it can continue.

“There will be, depending on what happens, I think there will be a lot of angry Rangers fans at Ibrox. If Celtic start well and score the first goal, there will be 51,000 Rangers fans in there, it could get really nasty – even if Rangers win, Celtic will still be 11 points clear. The league is over.”

Celtic will arrive at Ibrox in high spirits, boasting an unbeaten domestic record this season and fresh off convincing wins over Motherwell and St Johnstone. Brendan Rodgers’ side will be fully aware of the impact an early goal could have, not just on the pitch but in the stands as well.

With Celtic looking to tighten their grip on the title ‘race’ and Rangers desperate to salvage something, the scene is set for another explosive instalment in this rivalry.

  1. It’s to be expected that hun scum will be uglier and more toxic than usual, if it even possible to do so?
To get the hun scum support on side for the player’s, then the overly aggressive approach is expected with assistance from a cheating mib.
For ourselves in return, we can’t allow the scum to drag us down to there level, where our quality with the use of the football, will turn the scum against there own players, if they can’t get close to ourselves?
Our mentality will be crucial also, and Rodgers has possibly installed the strongest mentality into our team, that I can ever recall this season, and don’t see that dropping today, regardless of the imitation approach taken by the scum bully boys?

  2. Can’t believe that this scumbag Boyd is stirring up tensions again, and Sky are allowing him to get away with these horrible comments.

  3. Boyd is saying if Celtic score first the rangers supporters who will become violent poor choice of words from the village idiot who’s a laughing stock down south
