KRIS COMMONS has performed something of a u-turn seven days on from his scathing attack on Neil Lennon.

His column was quoted by Neil Lennon during a fiery press conference mid week with the Celtic manager not impressed with his former players take on the team. Kris said Neil Lennon was a week away from the sack and by today it could all be over if defeats to Lille and Aberdeen happened.

A week on and with two good performances and results in France and at Hampden, Kris is not saying his words were taken out of context.

“This could be a major turning point for Neil Lennon because there is no doubt that fans were beginning to get on his case.” Commons wrote in his mail blog as cited by SunSport.

“Some of the abuse he was taking on social media was beyond a joke. There was so much noise and drama off the field.

“His agent even ended up in a spat with fans on social media. I took a lot of criticism last week for comments I made about Lennon, which ended up being twisted and taken completely out of context by some.

“But I stand by what I said. At no point whatsoever did I suggest Celtic should sack him. I’ve got nothing but respect for him.

“Ultimately, he’s the man who started this run of league titles and he’s still the best man for the job to go on and secure ten-in-a-row.

“The point I made was that, especially on the back of the defeat to Rangers, the level of criticism among some fans had reached boiling point.

“If things had gone wrong against Lille and Aberdeen, he was going to find himself under serious pressure.

“Listen, Lennon would have known that himself. I’ve been in that dressing room and I can tell you the pressure is on in every single game at Celtic.

“That applies tenfold in this season above all others when the club are chasing the Holy Grail of ten-in-a-row.

“So full credit, then, for the way he has slowly, but surely, begun to turn it around over the past week.”

Commons has not been in the supporters good graces for a long time since becoming a pundit. Lennon was very critical of the former midfielders comments, especially when it came to Shane Duffy. The Celtic boss wasn’t amused considering Kris had struggled for long periods of time himself at Celtic.

The bhoys just finished a good weeks work, find themselves in another final and with a fighting chance in the Europa League.

Prague and Motherwell are up next for Celtic, hopefully some more positive results are in the offing. Getting our star players back are vital to our aspirations.

  1. And that was the boost to make the team and manager very determined to make all that did say things about manager and team eat there words.
It has been a kick up the bum that has helped turn the team on nothing is lost yet lets go get a hand full of medals….

Let us be one let us show what playing for Celtic is all about….

  2. Commons’ words were not taken out of context.! He meant what he said and it has come back to bite him on the bum!!. He has a very short memory, since himself and his wife went around the ground with their charity buckets, which was readily given, but talk about biting the hands that feeds you?? I loved the wee man, but he has done the same as Nicholas, Walker and Proven, and has dropped deeply from my admiration.!!!
