KRISTOFFER AJER had to go off during Celtic’s 2-2 draw with Lille. The game was 2-0 in Celtic’s favour when he did go off, which led to many wondering ‘what if’ on the night.

The centre-back told the physio something in his groin had gone and he couldn’t continue.

Neil Lennon has added a bit more information on the injury but there’s still a bit of mystery surrounding the extent of the problem.

Speaking to SunSport, Neil Lennon rules Ajer out of the Aberdeen game and revealed the club are now sending the defender for a scan.

“We haven’t got clarity on the extent of the injury. He’s to go for a scan so we’ll know more when we get the results back. I think it’s safe to say he won’t play on Sunday. He just felt something go in his groin and he couldn’t continue.

“He was very stiff on the plane on the way back. We won’t be able to determine how long he’s out for until we get the scan results. He’s been playing really well. I just think it’s a culmination of a lot of games, a bit of muscle fatigue in there.”

Celtic are already short on defensive options; Christopher Jullien is out already, Bitton has just come back in and Elhamed isn’t match sharp.

It’s up to Neil Lennon to juggle the team but not having our two first team centre backs from last season available is not ideal, to say the very least.

Hopefully, the injury isn’t too big an issue and Ajer is back sooner rather than later.
