Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer has admitted that he needs to improve on his ability to defend from set-pieces after a disappointing defeat for Norway against Turkey at the weekend saw him come in for some criticism.

Speaking to Norweigan outlet VG, Ajer admitted his disappointment in the defeat on Saturday which saw them lose out 3-0 whilst touching on the sloppiness of the three goals and what he personally needs to improve on.

“Yes, when you are left after a match like this, it is easy to say. We let in three far too simple goals, and then you can not win football matches.

“I have to be better at the set-piece. We need to be better at both of the other two goals. It is too weak.”

Defending set-pieces has been a massive problem for the Hoops this season with a lot of this seasons league goals being conceded through them.

As a defender who stands at around 6 ft 5 plus, there should be no real excuses for the 22-year old who really should be seen as an imposing figure from defending these types of opportunities.

It isn’t only Ajer’s fault for the goals conceded from set-plays with a lot more players playing their part but it is clear to see this is a side of his game he will need to improve on as he looks to reach the top and develop further as a footballer.
