Kristoffer Ajer has shared his thinking on the current football lockdown and how he is keeping himself ticking over in these strangest of times. The big defender is back home in Norway and making sure he stays on top of his fitness.
More importantly, the player wants all SPFL players to be looking after their mental health and insists Celtic is very much on top of this side of the game with an app that has been developed by the club.
“Celtic are good at focusing on the mental side of it. But many football players are in a cycle where everything is organised on the training ground and everything else for them.
“They get the adrenaline from playing games and going to training. Now that player is suddenly sitting at home, twirling his thumbs.”
On when he thinks football will return the player was in the dark as the rest of us are but he told Record Sport what he thought about playing in front of empty stands.
“It’s a difficult position for everyone. There are large sums involved with regard to the TV deals, which many clubs rely on. There is also talk of completing the season in front of empty stands, but football without supporters in the stands is absolutely awful.
The Norweigan has been linked with a number of clubs after the season he just had, at 21 years of age the best is yet to come from the player and he has been linked with the likes of AC Milan in recent weeks. Celtic are keen to tie the player down with a contract extension but his agent was stirring the pot only weeks ago by claiming Ajer would be leaving the champions this summer no matter what.
