Neil Lennon has revealed he’s held a heart to heart with Kristoffer Ajer as speculation mounts around the defender’s future.

It’s very telling the Celtic manager didn’t say the defender was keen to stay but rather he sympathised with Ajer’s current situation.

Lennon did say the player is focused and he knows he can rely on him on Thursday night in Latvia.

“He’s very focused.” The Celtic Gaffer told SunSport.

“He will start tomorrow, he’s looking forward to the game.

“You can’t control speculation. Like I’ve said, as always, there’s been no concrete offers, no confirmation of anything and we don’t want to sell him.

“And he’s in a good place mentally.

“I’ve spoken to him on it yesterday and I’m there as a support for him.

“Sometimes it can be a very distracting situation, which he finds himself in.

“So he’s getting all the support he can from myself and the backroom team, as well as his team-mates.”

Ajer appears to fancy a move but there’s no guarantee the defender will get his move. AC Milan have a strict budget and it remains to be seen if they can convince Celtic to part with the Norwegian.

The transfer window closes on October 5th, at which point Celtic can survey their squad and know exactly what they have going forward until at least January. If Ajer was to get a move, the club would have to go out and find a replacement fast. The longer you leave it in the window, the more the price could go up if you’re not careful.

Ajer will remain a Celtic player unless the board’s valuation is met, it’s as simple as that.
