Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi took to Instagram this morning after he made his first Japan appearance in over a year on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old earned somewhat of a surprise call-up to the national team yet remained on the bench for the Samurai Blue’s first game of the international break against Indonesia last Friday. Kyogo’s Celtic teammates Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate both played in the 4-0 win.
It looked like it was going to be yet more international disappointment for the attacker until Hajime Moriyasu introduced him for the closing stages of the 3-1 win over China earlier in the week.
Kyogo came on with 13 minutes to go, replacing Koki Ogawa, who netted a brace in the match.
It was the Celt’s first cap since October 2023, and after it, he has taken to Instagram, vowing to the Japanese supporters that he will ‘try again’ the next time he represents his country:
Gruelling Celtic Run Ahead
As Kyogo turns his attention back to the club scene, he must lock in for a brutal run of Celtic fixtures all the way until March. Between now and New Year, the Scottish Premiership champions have 10 games alone in what Brendan Rodgers has described as an ‘ultramarathon’.
Things start this weekend when the Bhoys travel to face Hearts at Tynecastle on Saturday night.
