Kyogo Furuhashi’s move to Rennes is yet to catch fire, with the former Celtic striker still looking for his first goal in France. Signed for £10 million in January, the Japanese forward has made just four appearances and is already out of favour under a new manager installed shortly after his arrival.

The striker, who left Celtic mid-season, has found himself benched more often than not, leading to criticism from some corners for making the switch when he was still a key figure at Parkhead. Despite the slow start to life in Ligue 1, Kyogo remains optimistic about turning things around.

Former Celtic striker Andy Walker believes a return to Glasgow’s east end shouldn’t be ruled out. Drawing comparisons with recent returnees, Walker pointed to Jota, who came back to Celtic this season after a stint in Saudi Arabia and a short spell in France.

“I think there’s always a chance,” Walker told Go Radio’s Football Show. “I mean, Celtic have brought Kieran Tierney back, they’ve brought Jota back, they have made a big profit on Jota, for example.

“Kieran Tierney will be welcomed with open arms, given his history at Celtic, given the quality that he still has. And the only thing you ask of Kieran Tierney is you hope he gets that bit of luck and he remains injury-free.”

Kyogo’s return would certainly be welcomed by fans, especially with Celtic currently relying on Adam Idah and Daizen Maeda up front. Goals are spread throughout the side, but when Kyogo was firing at Celtic, he was the main man. The fans loved him and he contributed to a very successful spell at the club.

Whether a reunion becomes realistic may depend on Rennes’ stance come summer, and Kyogo’s ability to force his way back into the team over the remainder of the season. Even though we have witnessed the return of Jota and we’re now awaiting the arrival of Kieran Tierney this summer, a deal for kyogo seems less likely, but never say never.

  1. Wasn’t pushed into his move. Didn’t like doing all Celtics attack?

Got bullied a whole lot by Scottish teams.

So left for a change of climate/outlook.

  2. Ridiculous idea.

We got a good deal when we sold him to Rennes. He was desperate to go and if we are genuinely interested in buying him again, it would be yet another damning indictment of our recruitment department.

As far as im concerned, the jury is still out on the Jota return.

Only surprised that we didnt jump in ahead of
    Dunfermline and sign Wanyama!

  3. Where are these fans that would welcome him back?
Only Desmond because he would profit off it.
Kyogo disrespected the club and fans by slinking off mid season with a bunch of illogical reasons. Then when you fail expect us to welcome you back with open arms like an ugly ex lover.

Oh OK add Rodgers to one that would want him back then he wouldn’t be the only Judas in the ranks that the fans can never again fully trust.
Both could have been looked upto like the Lions and Seville teams and players like Broony, McGrain and McStay but the stench of their treacherous opportunism will taint their legacies.

Get a new striker that we can keep for several years and has career stats of at least a goal every two games.

And Ajer and Starfelt… thanks for your service but we need to look forward. Lenny could probably swing you a job in Fife though.
