KYOGO FURUHASHI was in action tonight for Japan, helping achieve a 1-0 victory over Oman. After being introduced in the 62nd minute, the man from Japan was on the pitch for little over half an hour but didn’t directly contribute to the late goal.

Good news for Celtic fans though, he did not pick up an injury meaning he is fit for selection for this Saturday’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final.

The win helps Japan’s hopes of reaching the World Cup next year with two guaranteed places in next year’s competition up for grabs.

The win this afternoon extended the gap between Oman and Japan to five points, leaving the Samurai Blue’s a point above Australia and four behind leaders Saudi Arabia.

Sitting second place, to qualify for Qatar 2022 Japan must win three out of their next four including a win over Australia.

This, however, will be a tough challenge for the country but missing out on second place does rule out the prospect of competing next year. 3rd place will send the team into a playoff match.

The country has competed at every World Cup since 1998.
