The decision to not take Celtic star Kyogo to the World Cup at the end of 2022 is something that’s driving the striker to hit new heights with Celtic.

Instead of sulking about not getting into the national team for the major tournament, he has focused on what he can do at club level and the hoops have benefited greatly.

Kyogo has been on fire this season and for the second time scored two goals in the League Cup final to win the trophy for the bhoys.

The Japanese forward was again overlooked this international break by his country. It’s baffling considering he’s the highest scoring Japanese player in Europe this season – something Kyogo points to.

Daizen was the only player to get the nod from the Celtic camp, but again Kyogo is using it as fuel.

Speaking to Japanese TV, and cited by RecordSport, Kyogo said: “I am really happy in Glasgow. I had prepared to play in the World Cup. But it’s useless to talk and think about the past. So after me not getting into the squad happened, I decided I was only going to concentrate on the future at Celtic.

“I wanted to score a goal in every game to help the team win. I have managed to score more goals than any other Japanese player in a season in Europe. My dream of playing in the World Cup for Japan has not come true so far, but the season has been very good for me.”

There are nine games to go in the SPFL where Kyogo could pick up more silverware. There’s also the chance to get to another cup final if the bhoys can see of The Rangers again at Hampden.

It’s exciting times for Celtic fans and the striker and we’re delighted with how he’s been doing.
