I’ve seen Mikael Lustig come in for a lot of criticism lately and while I think it’s justified as he’s struggled this season by his own standards but I’d stop short of calling him “finished”.

The recent deal handed to Anthony Ralston has sparked speculation that he will replace Lustig and I would agree, however, Lustig still has a lot to offer while Rodgers transitions Ralston into right back.

The Swede has spoken in previous interviews that he knows his days may soon be numbered at the right back position but would certainly like to explore playing more at centre back.

However, he always seems to give up easy possession now and panics when placed under the slightest bit of pressure, with his confidence low it’s clearly impacting his performance.

Tiredness has also had its part to play, Mikael is in the top three Celtic players to have the most minute under their belts this season, the other two being a young Kieran Tierney and goalkeeper Craig Gordon.

Maybe it’s just as simple he needed a rest, like a lot of the squad.

Scott Brown was written off not too long ago after a lacklustre season and look at him now, arguably in the form of his career and well on his way to a Player of the Year nomination.

We know how good Lustig can be and the competition with Ralston will do nothing but help and improve Lustig’s performances in a Celtic jersey in my opinion.

  1. Be a great servant to celtic and he is far from done, needs a good rest to recharge the batteries maybe the winter break will provide that for him. I hate the way the fans are to quick jump on players when they hit a lull in their performance they are human working at an incredibly high rate of fitness which in its self is incredibly hard to maintain.
