BRENDAN RODGERS has given an update on Dedryck Boyata’s current injury situation with the payer being unavailable since coming back from the winter break.

Many believed the player wasn’t being risked in case a late move materialised for the Belgian. However, with the window now closed and Boyata seemingly happy to run down his Celtic contract, the bhoys have him until the summer; but he has to get fit first.

The Celtic manager has all but confirmed Celtic will be playing a second string centre back team against Valencia in two weeks with Boyata only coming out of rehab next week and then starting to build his match sharpness.

“The plan, all being well with the last couple of days of rehab, is for him to train with the reserves this weekend. Rodgers told Celtic TV.

“And then he will hopefully train with the first team next week.”

Some are claiming the defender will be out for a month but Rodgers seems hopeful with his response.

Benkovic already being out until at least March is a massive blow, and Rogic out for six weeks adds to the Celtic manager’s woes.
