Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has claimed that the injury of Giorgos Giakoumakis is a ‘massive blow’ as the injury list piles up for Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou.

As quoted by Sun Sport speaking on Premier Sports, Sutton emphasised how big a blow it was for Ange to lose yet another striker to injury within what is already a stretched squad filled with knocks and issues.

“It is a massive, massive blow. Celtic have got enough injuries.

“They signed a goalscorer. Odsonne Edouard has gone down south now, and Celtic are struggling for players. You need players on the Celtic bench who can come on and make an impact. It is just not there. It is going to be a tough couple of weeks for Celtic. They are severely stretched.”

Hearing the news of Giakoumakis’ warm-up injury was incredibly frustrating.

The striker looked like he was finally going to get his chance in the side to build up some match fitness and sharpness during a much-needed period.

However, Ange was delivered yet another blow which has seen his squad been further depleted.

It is far from the ideal situation, and Sutton is correct in his statement that it will be a blow for the Hoops manager to face a further player being added to the long list of injury issues.

  1. Signing unfit and unprepared players would seem a suicidal tactic for a club in Celtic’s position. Along with sick note players like Jullien and Mickey Johnstone both of whom will be lucky to play 10 games a season for the rest of their careers makes Ange’s job almost impossible. Every game a must-win until about March. Needs better luck.
