Celtic’s newest defensive recruit Carl Starfelt has declared himself fit for Saturday’s opening league game of the season against Hearts.

As quoted by the Daily Record, the Swedish international was officially unveiled as a Celtic player this afternoon, revealing his delight at joining the club and insisting he will be ready to go for the first league game of the season this weekend.

“It is a true honour to be here and to come to such a big club, with such great history and maybe the world’s best fans, so it really is a huge honour for me and I am very happy.

“If the coach wants to play me, I will, of course, play and give 100 per cent. That is up to the coach to decide if I will play or not, I have been training the last few days, and I feel ready.

“I want to come here and be successful and see the team be successful and win titles and to play in Europe; I want to do all of those things.

“When Celtic call, you answer, and I knew right away what I wanted to do, so I’m very happy that all this has gone through.”

This news will likely delight both Celtic fans and boss Ange Postecoglou.

The Hoops have been in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, and that was once again seen last night in the 2-1 defeat, which saw us exit the Champions League qualifiers at the 2nd round stage.

With the little options that Ange has in defence, you would imagine Ange will be keen to put Starfelt straight into the action, even after just a couple of days of training.

In recent years, we have seen new signings make an immediate impact at Tynecastle on the season’s opening day and kick on. Fingers crossed that is the case for our news signing too.
