There are many within the Celtic support who take the ‘Don’t tell me, show me’ approach when it comes to our club’s hierarchy.

After a quite horrendous summer transfer window which was capped off with Celtic being forced into selling one of their top assets in Moussa Dembele and bringing in a low risk and no risk duo of Mulumbu and Benkovic as some sort of consolation prize.

It’s safe to say, relations between Lawwell and the fanbase have been stronger, but it’s not the first time we’ve been here.

Peter Lawwell once famously proclaimed ‘We always aim to come out of the transfer window stronger than when we went in’ – if that was his remit this summer then he should have had his books.

Missing out on McGinn, failing to procure several targets Rodgers asked for and testing the patience of a manager who has won a double treble for the club – it’s quite astonishing.

That’s why when Peter delivers a polished statement to the support as the club announce over £100m turnover with £17million profits, not everyone is listening.

For those who seen the headlines but didn’t delve deeper, the Celtic chief executive hinted towards signings shortly.

However, it comes with the caveat that the manager also goes on about it; only if it improves the squad and therein lies the difficulty.

“Our objective is always to bring players to the club who will improve the squad,” said Lawwell. “Given the quality of our existing squad that is a challenging task, made more difficult by hyperinflation in transfer fees and player salaries in the market.

“Nevertheless, our objective is to invest everything that we can into the football operation without putting the club at risk.”

Buying John McGinn for what Hibernian wanted for him wouldn’t have put the club at risk. Whether you were a supporter of the player coming in or not – you have to admit the nature of how Celtic went about their business in the summer was truly absurd.

It’s going to be a big January for Lawwell, Rodgers and the scouting team as they try to right the wrongs of the previous window and galvanise the squad.

  1. Lawwell needs to be removed, plain and simple.
Don’t hold your breath on money being spent in January.
This propaganda will be pushed again in April as he prepares for sending out season ticket renewals.
    He is a tosser!!

  2. I am a bit tired of reading the garbage that we “missed out” on McGinn.
John McGinn had the chance to choose us or Vila. He chose Villa.
    hardly Peter Lawwell’s fault!
McGinn just proved he doesn’t have what it takes to be a Celtic player!

  3. Here we go again. Every window for 5 years has been massive and do you know what we do nothing. Only a complete half-witted idiot would expect Celtic to sign anyone. We will lose Ntcham, make more money and the Tory scum who run celtic will be delighted.
