CELTIC are on the hunt for a Director of Football, the vital role will see one man oversee the entire football operations and work closely with the next manager of the football club.

David Webb has been linked with the role for quite some time. David is the ex-Huddersfield head of football operations and Bournemouth recruitment chief.

Asked if the job is something he would be interested in, there was no scope for ambiguity in his response.

“I think so.” Webb told The Herald.

“Given their historical success and how they want to build from their academy and build a long-term strategy for the club and still maintain success by winning leagues and cups, and Europe, that would definitely appeal to me.”

Celtic need to be careful, if they are looking to appoint a new manager and DoF, they need to make sure both men can coexist in their roles. The close proximity both will need to work with each other means there has to be a rapport and a shared ideology to take the club forward.

There’s an argument for appointing a director of football first before bringing in the manager but the club could conceivable do it at the same time.

Other names linked with the role are Fergal Harkin of Manchester City and Juventus scout Matteo Tognozzi as reported last month by MailSport.

Celtic’s season is winding down in the league with their rivals just about over the line. The Scottish Cup could give support some interest from now until the end of the season but most eyes are focused on who the next man in charge will be.
