Leeds Utd have snapped up Celtic youth goalkeeper Rory Mahady who has today finished his nine year affiliation with the Scottish Champions.

Mahady, 16, won’t be known to many Celtic supporters, but he becomes another youth player who has left the club to join an EPL outfit.

Celtic are still a long way off having a youth system that can rival some of the best in the world. Lennoxtown is a great platform to offer kids the chance to develop and progress but we struggle to keep our best talent at the club.

Ben Doak couldn’t even be convinced to stay even after he was handed some first team football last season. He moved onto Liverpool shortly after despite being a Celtic fan.

The Bhoys need to show a genuine pathway to the first team and make that a massive incentive for youngsters to stick around. Not every young player can make it, but our hit rate has to become better. A balance between bringing players in and promoting our youth has to be struck.
