Reports down south claim Leeds Utd are chasing highly rated Celtic youngster Leo Hjelde.

The Yorkshire Evening post claims the English side are keen on the Celtic defender who spent the second half of last season out on loan to Ross County.

There are high hopes for Leo within the Celtic set up and he could find himself in and around the first team squad next season if he can show the new manager he’s worthy of a place.

Ange Postecoglou has no qualms about playing young players if they have the talent and that should convince our top young stars to stick about.

Leeds could offer the defender more money but the opportunities at Celtic can be a big pull this season.

Leo was impressive on loan at Ross County, garnering praise from the now former County manager John Hughes.

Hughes told PRESS AND JOURNAL: “One hundred percent, Leo is going to be the next Van Dijk. Trust me on that. I would love to see him make his debut for Celtic and become a regular. I would love nothing more to see him running out there.

“We want him to play his part in keeping Ross County in the Premiership then play for Celtic next season.

Hughes added that Leo had signed a contract extension with the club to fend off interest from Leeds Utd but the club never confirmed this:

“Before he came here it was Leeds United who wanted him and he had to sign an extension for his loan to go through.” Hughes claimed.

Putting a label like the ‘next Virgil van Dijk’ is probably not helpful to Leo at this point in his career. Hughes does know a player when he sees one, so if he’s anywhere in the ball park, Celtic have a big player on their hands,
