The whole football world was shocked and saddened to learn of the death of former football commentator John Motson.

Motson for many had been the voice of a footballing generation and people tend to only have good things to say about him as he made the game so exciting for many.

During a career which spanned 50 years, he commentated on over 2,500 televised games and covered ten World Cups and European Championships as well as 29 FA Cup finals for the BBC.

He is undoubtedly a giant of the game that will be greatly missed in the football world.

Following his passing, an old photograph appeared online of his utterly brilliant notes in preparation for Celtic’s first round UEFA CUP tie against Liverpool at Celtic Park in 1997.

He is very complimentary to a certain Simon Donnelly as there is a comparison to a certain Kenny Dalglish mentioned.

It was all change for Celtic at that particular point in time as Wim Jansen had only arrived at the club a few months earlier. The season would be defining for many of the squad as they went on to win a League Cup and League double and became the team that stopped the 10.
