LEIGH GRIFFITHS has admitted he let his weight slip this season and dipped below the standards expected of a Celtic player.

He was scoring some important goals and declaring he was number one but Brendan Rodgers was not impressed.

The Celtic striker bowed out of international duty back in October to focus on his fitness and get back to his best. Unfortunately, an illness occurred and then an injury which curtailed Leigh’s progress.

However, the Celtic star came back with a bang today and looked leaner too!

Coming on as a second half substitute against Hamilton, the Scotland striker scored a fantastic free kick to re-announce himself onto the Celtic stage.

It must have been a great feeling for Griffiths to get that goal and build his confidence back up in the process.

Speaking after the game Leigh spoke of his frustrations.

“There was a lot of frustration but I’ve had to get on with it and do my rehab properly. It didn’t help that I was ill for 10 days as that took up a chunk of my recovery time.” He told Record Sport.

“It was so good to be back in the team and hopefully now I’m back firing on all cylinders.

“Speaking to the manager and the sports science staff, it’s no secret that I was a bit heavier looking.

“But over six weeks I’ve managed to drop a lot of weight and I feel a lot sharper now.”

“You see free-kicks where players try to bend them but sometimes you just need to hit it.

The striker will now be in contention for Celtic’s crunch game against Rosenborg on Thursday – right now though, Rodgers will most likely go with Edouard up front who has been playing exceptionally well in Leigh’s absence.

  1. Don’t worry about it leigh
    Your back now
    It could of been worse
You could of let your standards slip that far you couldn’t of come back from, like Chris boyd
No doubt, fat boy boyd, will be not happy with you, expect bitter boyd will try and have a go.
You score goals, he eats, then thinks by running his mouth off will run the weight off, and they call him a professional, I know what he should be called, it rhymes with tanker
    Hail Hail
