Everton defender Leighton Baines was disappointed that the Europa League draw didn’t throw up a tie against Celtic.

The Premiership star was hoping to sample what Celtic Park can offer on a big European night.

“The one team I was hoping for was Celtic but they didn’t end up in our group unfortunately,” he said.

That would have been a great game to play in.”

While the Europa League hasn’t got the glamour of the Champions League a tie against Everton would have wet the appetites of the Celtic support.

Celtic and Everton have never met in a European competition.

However the tie could still happen if both teams negotiate their way out of the group stages of the competition.

Everton  take on Wolfsburg on matchday one, while Celtic are in action against Salzburg.
