Celtic will face stiff competition from Bundesliga high flyers and Euro rivals Leipzig for the signature of Nick Powell according to TeamTalk.

Powell is currently coming into the last six months of his Wigan deal and will be free to sign a pre-contract with any club come January.

Celtic were alerted to this a while back and have reportedly been watching the English midfielder for some time.

The Wigan star knocked back a contract from the club in October and shows no signs of signing a new deal at the moment.

Are Celtic and Leipzig on another collision course with each other after playing a double header in the Europe League?

Both sides are vying for a place in the last 32 of the competition. If either side were to sign the Englishman, he would be available for European competition after Christmas.

Celtic have just wrapped up a new deal for Ryan Christie, so it remains to be seen if the club will follow through on an initial interest in the player.

Brendan Rodgers was very active in trying to bring in a Stuart Armstrong replacement this summer and Nick certainly falls into that category.

But with Christie impressing, will the Celtic boss hold off and spend money elsewhere on the team?
